ELECTRIC ARC FURNACES (EAFs)

Paras’ most-modern electric arc furnaces are advanced electric steel-making technology used to melt non-ferrous metals like brass, zinc, tin, bronze, and copper.

Electric Arc Furnace

The EAFs can take up to 100% scrap as well as diverse mixes of hot metal, HBI, DRI and pig iron. They use both electric and chemical energy based on the characteristics of the power grid and unit costs. Our EAFs can also be made completely automatic through the application of several technological packages to optimize the process.

THE PROCESS OF EAF

An electric arc furnace consists of the spherical shaped furnace, a retractable roof with electric rods and a refractory material dressed hearth for collecting the molten metal.

The scrap steel or the iron is placed in the furnace and the electric rod made of graphite is passed into it. The scrap or metal is melted by the electro current passed through the rods and the radiant energy produced by the arc. Once the metal is melted, the doors on the sides are opened to remove the alloy, and the oxygen that is formed.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF PARAS ELECTRIC ARC FURNACES

  • Pollution-free: Paras’ EAFs are pollution-free. They also have exceptional metallurgical control.
  • Flexibility: The EAFs are highly flexible as they can be rapidly started and stopped.
  • Reduction in energy: The EAFs require reduction in specific energy to produce the steel. Their power factor is far better.
  • Low operating cost: Paras’ EAFs have high efficiency and considerably low operating costs.
